Please join our moderator, Stephen Ellis, Katherine Graubard, our timer, and your friends and neighbors for a Skyline Soapbox discussion of candidates at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27 th. There will be a limited number of seats in the Mount Baker Room, and the rest of us will join the discussion via Zoom.
Come and share your views on the candidates, or just come to find out what your friends and neighbors think. We ask only that you be civil and cordial, and talk about the benefits of your choice, not how awful the other candidates would be if elected.
Remember – this is a top-two election. Whoever gets the most votes, or second most votes, is on the ballot for the General Election. Four years ago we had a General Election race for State Treasurer between two Republicans because three democrats almost equally split 52 percent of the primary vote.
The Mix of Candidates
There are thirty-seven candidates for governor, ranging from the American Patriot Party to the Socialist Workers Party, three types of Republicans, (from Trump Republican to Pre2016 Republican), five Democrats, one Green Party, various independents, and others claiming affiliation in parties none of us would recognize.
We also have eleven candidates for Lieutenant Governor, a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent, and a Progressive. We also have two candidates for State Treasurer, four for Secretary of State, three for State Auditor, four for Attorney General, seven for Lands Commissioner, six for Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Three for Insurance Commissioner.
Finally, we have four candidates for the Ninth District Congressional seat, and three candidates for each of our State House of Representatives seats.
You can’t tell the players without a program, so read your Voter’s Pamphlet before you come – it should be in your mailbox by July 15 th. If you’d like more detailed information (complete list of candidates, websites, and who’s actually raising money, send a request for Jim’s spreadsheet to jimsanders1947@gmail.com.
