Neighborhood Flyways Symposium: Partners for Seattle’s Tree Canopy

Seattle Audubon has developed a 4-year Neighborhood Flyways campaign to restore and connect the tree canopy across Seattle. Please join us as we discuss:
- Urban forestry opportunities and challenges
- Seattle’s density policies and tree ordinances
- Private and public urban re-forestation programs
- Environmental justice and community engagement
- Green infrastructure and ecosystem services planning
- Investment in carbon sequestration to mitigate climate change
- Restoring urban and natural habitats for birds, wildlife, and human communities
AGENDA
2:00 – 4:00 Introductory presentations
- John Brosnan, Seattle Audubon executive director, speaking on behalf of Neighborhood Flyways, tree canopy conservation, and restoration for bird habitat.
- Jana Dilley, Trees for Seattle program manager, Seattle Public Utilities, speaking to the City of Seattle’s efforts to engage the community in caring for our urban forests.
- Michelle Caulfield, deputy director of Seattle’s Office for Sustainability and Environment, speaking on city density policies and tree ordinances.
- Mark McPherson, executive director at the Urban Forest Carbon Registry, on generating new funding for the many ecosystem services provided by urban trees.
- Sean M. Watts, director of community engagement at Seattle Parks Foundation, speaking to genuine community organizing and justice challenges and opportunities.
- Chris Hilton, urban partnerships director at the Nature Conservancy, speaking to the role of trees in green infrastructure and benefits of nearby nature.
