Due east, Bellevue arises

That’s radiation fog forming behind Bellevue. Light from the predawn blue sky warms the ground enough to warm the bottom layer of air, which has extra humidity from overnight settling (no wind to mix it). Warmer air rises but soon … Continue reading

Here today, gone tomorrow and so it goes

This is a trip down memory lane. So many things the younger generation will never see. What do we have now that will so quickly be forgotten? Thanks to Rosemary Wehrman for sharing!

The sunset colors

Taken using the HDR on my Canon 5D Mark 3 DSLR.  The iphone and ipad cameras on HDR setting usually fail to capture the shading.

The Greening before The Smoke

Satellite photo 7/31/2017 from a few days before the BC smoke obscured the area.  That’s a phytoplankton bloom covering all of Hood Canal. The source of discoloration is a huge bloom of microscopic phytoplankton plated with white calcium carbonate. Under … Continue reading

Blue Angels in Sunday’s Silvertone Skies

The view from the 18th floor of that building next to Park Shore.  The second photo shows them passing directly overhead; the third shows a pass where the pilot was at the same altitude as the photographer.

Meandering

The Jurea River in the Amazon and its many abandoned meanders.  Note all of the pale green loops that have revegetated.  Spring floods break through the narrower of the necks, as has happened at the center of this picture.

Why no travelogues?

In six years at Skyline, no one has ever asked me over to see their vacation pictures. It is only in the past year that I’ve seen a returned traveler pull out their iPhone and show off a few pictures … Continue reading

Scanning Skyline’s skyline

I hope to do annual panoramic views from the 26th floor observation deck.  This pair used the iPad’s camera set to Pano: Alas, one cannot blow it up for details or it gets all fuzzy, so I used a good telephoto … Continue reading

The Art of the Skybridge (at least in Denver)

This connects two buildings of the Denver Art Museum that are separated by a city street.  It is what the Skyline 1-2 Skybridge could be like: a few tables, some art, maybe a few lounge chairs.  The street is several stories … Continue reading

It is the 43-story 5th & Columbia Building we see immediately west of Skyline. The picture was taken several months ago as the sun rose in the east.

What was here before Skyline?

There’s a wonderful “before and after” story in today’s Seattle Times about a mansion that used to be literally at our front door – 9th and Columbia. The address on the picture should have correctly been 725 9th, not 727. … Continue reading

The “seat of civilization”

From Gordon Gray History repeating itself: gender-neutral bathroom – My father said that as a rowdy youngster, he used to tip these over at Halloween – until one time a farmer was on the throne. They barely escaped!
