Gone are the three elevators that looked as if they belonged in a residential tower. Now they all look like hard-edged freight elevators.
It took me a day to recall the origins of that look. It is Filament Strapping Tape by 3M, used for wrapping the really heavy packages.
Actually I like to cool silver hard-face look. Kind of like an entry to the Skyline ballroom!
But we are neither a hotel nor an office building. There used to be a clear distinction between their elevators and the residential ones which had softer sound-absorbing walls, a bench for seating or keeping packages off the floor, carpet rather than hard flooring that requires trip-able throw rugs on rainy days, and so forth.
Bring back the Smith Tower elevator operators – for a concierge guided trip to our floors!
These are actually our new “go-go” parlors–we can all dance wildly when the strobe lights are installed!
The warmth is gone, now. It’s black and silver, brrrr, undertaker here I come!
