Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) The bivalent (two-strain) respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine made by Pfizer (RSVpreF, or Abrysvo) reduced the risk of hospitalization and emergency department (ED) visits for at least three seasons after vaccination in older adults with a high prevalence of comorbidities, according to a study published last week in Infectious Diseases and Therapy.
A separate study published the same day in JAMA Network Openfound that RSV vaccines provided substantial protection against RSV-related hospitalization and death among adults aged 65 and older and people with weakened immune systems during the 2023-24 respiratory virus season. (continued on page 2)
