Introduction to the Corner Store

Thanks to Donna Murphy

The Corner Store on the 4th floor of the Cascade Tower is a resale shop selling items donated by Skyline residents.  Money realized from these sales supports a variety of resident activities sponsored by the SRA: for example opera; chamber and chorale music; speakers; films; art in the common areas; plants and garden supplies; special equipment for various programs (art, music, etc.); and many additional benefits,

Sales are made to the staff, residents, families and friends who appreciate the opportunity to buy items at very affordable prices.

When you move to independent living or the Terraces you are often unable to take everything to your new home or you may need to supplement your current supplies/furnishing, etc.  When family or friends do not want certain items the Corner Store is glad to assist by accepting them for the shop.  Sometimes a family will want to dispose of everything left behind in a unit.  In such cases we could hold an Estate Sale in the apartment and we  would work with Skyline for approval.

If you have questions about what we can accept, don’t hesitate to stop by and check.  We are happy to come to your unit to evaluate if necessary.

Donors may receive a tax receipt for such items, and you will be helping support important activities for you and your neighbors.

We take clothing, jewelry, kitchen items, art, small furnishings, greeting cards. electronics/gadgets to name a few. You are invited to visit the Corner Store to see the variety of items we offer to sell.  All donations should be clean and in good condition.

Residents and staff often just stop by to see what’s new this week.  We have small hostess gifts, three drawers of $1 items and even some mystery gadgets we’re wondering how to operate.  Two display cases—one across from the Cascade Dining Room and another next to the Mt Baker room offer specialty items that we are happy to open and show you if you are interested.

Although the Corner Store does not usually take books, the Skyline Library will.  As a rule, we do not take sizable items that just do not have room for.  However, we are happy to help families get the word out of what is available if we cannot take certain larger items.

Our clients may be visiting family and friends, and everyone likes to know they are contributing to the enjoyment/education of Skyline people.

If you are interested in donating anything to the store, or want to see something in the display cases, please contact the managers listed below.  We are happy to answer questions and advise you as to how we might help you during your transition.  We are now open Monday 11-1, Wednesday 11-1 and Friday 1-3.
