Producing pharmaceuticals in microgravity

Thanks to Charlotte Lin

In-space manufacturing startup Varda Space told Reuters it has raised $250 million in a Series D round at a $1.6 billion valuation, part of its mission to produce pharmaceuticals in microgravity.

There are certain products whose development in space yields better efficiencies or purities than in the gravity of Earth.

Varda has already deployed six missions to orbit. These were undertaken with its free-flying W-Series capsule. It plans to debut a next-generation capsule in 2030.
